History

Founder and Executive Director, Thelma Moton, wife and mother, had a simple desire in 1991 to make a positive difference in her local community. The goal was simple: recruit others (5) with the same passion to educate, encourage, share out of life experience and build relationships; to impact lives to make a positive difference. What began with five volunteers and fifteen young ladies has grown to become the largest healthy choice organization in the state, serving over 3,500-4,000 youth annually in Faulkner and Conway counties.

C2E has been a respected member of the Faulkner County community and the state of Arkansas for 19 years. C2E’s mission to develop the character and competence of high-risk youth through a safe, structured in-school and community-based mentoring relationships has earned recognition and support from many partners, collaborators, and the community at large. This support will provide the organization the freedom to be innovative and unique in testing the efficacy of developing youth in Faulkner County Juvenile System and Conway Alternative programs providing students intense behavioral interventions through weekly one-on-one and small group mentoring inclusive of high-risk behaviors among the underserved African American community and youth at risk within alternative school settings.

Mentors Matter...Think About It...

Choosing to Excel has been providing mentors for the youth of Faulkner County since 1991.  In our experience we have seen the outstanding benefits of the mentor/mentee relationship.  Benefits like better behavior in the classroom, inproved grades, fewer trips to the principal's office, and improved social behavior; just to name a few!  Don't take our word for it, in the United States, nearly three million young people are reported to be in formal one-on-one mentoring relationships today, a six-fold increase from just a decade ago and this number is still rising.  The benefits of a formal, supervised mentor/mentee relationship are worth the committment...there's just one problem.

We don't have enough mentor's to adequatly fill the need right here in Central ArkansasCLICK HERE to visit our Mentoring page and learn more about this small commitment of time that will make a big difference in your community.
